Leadcare hosts successful Self-Care event to coincide with ‘Self Care Week’. The event was held on Thursday, 21st November 2024 and was open to all Nurses and Healthcare Assistants across Northern Ireland.

As we prepare for a new year, many of us will be setting new year resolutions and intentions related to self-care, so we’re sharing highlights from the day as a reminder that self-care is healthcare and should be prioritised to support our own physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The event featured a range of guest speakers including:

  • Margaret Crossan from Aware NI discussing burnout and depression.
  • Maggs Walsh from ARC Fitness on ‘mindfulness and me’.
  • Sandra McNeill, independent menopause consultant.
  • Edelle Harrigan from I Am Self-Care discussing the benefits of aromatherapy.

In addition to the guest speakers, attendees could also participate in a free optional health check, and there were goodie bags and a range of spot prizes on the day kindly sponsored by local businesses including Kollo Health, Noir, Ferry Clever, The Old Docks, Millennium Forum, Lynch’s Flowers, and Barbour Lounge.

The Self Care event was an opportunity for our Nurses to meet one another, engage directly with the Senior Management Team, and benefit from signposting to physical and mental health organisations and resources in the community, all whilst enjoying some light refreshments in an informal setting.

Registered Nurse and Director of Leadcare Recruitment, Paul Strachan, said:

‘The aim of our Self-Care event is to provide – not just our own Nursing and healthcare staff but any across Northern Ireland who wished to attend – the relevant information, resources, and tools to support their physical and mental health and wellbeing.’

‘As Registered Nurses with over 20 years of experience, Stephen [Ferguson] and I founded Leadcare with the commitment to redefine how an Agency invests in and supports their workers; we are determined to be an excellent Agency that values and prioritises our Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.’

Registered Nurse Manager of Leadcare Recruitment, Karen Kane, said:

‘It was brilliant to see so many of our Agency staff turn up for the event, and to meet some new faces too. It’s a great opportunity for our staff to engage with each other and build connections, and a way for us to thank our staff for their hard work.’
