In the healthcare sector, continuous professional development (CPD) is not a choice but a necessity. This is especially true for Registered Nurses, who are required to keep their Mandatory Training updated.
Leadcare Recruitment provide all Nurses registered with us free access to an online learning portal, where most Mandatory Training can be completed or refreshed. However, some Mandatory Training must be completed in-person, or involves practical elements, and this training can be difficult to source.
As a leading Nursing Agency in Northern Ireland, we are proud to now offer our Nurses free access to training programmes that are in high demand including:
- CPI Safety Intervention Training (formerly MAPA)
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Safety Intervention Training, formerly known as Managing and Preventing Aggressive Behaviour (MAPA), equips Nurses with the skills to prevent and manage challenging behaviours in healthcare settings. This evidence-based training focuses on de-escalation techniques, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and healthcare professionals, and is a requirement for Mental Health Nursing.
This is a 3-day practical and classroom-based course with eLearning to complete prior to the in-person training.
- Haemovigilance Competency Training
Haemovigilance is a critical aspect of transfusion safety, and we recognise its significance in maintaining high standards of care. Our Haemovigilance Competency Training goes beyond routine practice, enhancing a Nurse’s ability to monitor and manage transfusion-related incidents. This training ensures Nurses are well-prepared to handle any challenges associated with blood transfusions, contributing to improved patient outcomes.
Haemovigilance Competency Training is delivered in two parts and must be completed every three years. The theory is completed online and includes modules such as Safe Transfusion and Blood Components. The practical assessment is conducted face-to-face and is essential for Nurses to be able to administer blood products to patients.
- Cannulation / IV Administration
Delivered by HSC Clinical Education Centre (CEC) for Leadcare Agency Nurses, this in-house training provides our Nurses with the opportunity to practice Cannulation and IV Administration in a controlled environment through practical demonstrations and activities.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Basic Life Support is vital training in a medical emergency and especially important when a sudden cardiac arrest occurs. A prompt response can save a patient’s life. Basic Life Support includes rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and defibrillation with an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Manual Handling / Patient Movement & Handling
Hoists, sliding aids, electric profiling beds, and other specialised equipment are often used to support the movement and handling of patients. The correct use of such equipment is important, as is understanding the correct use of manual handling techniques for rare occasions where lifting/movement aids are not available or cannot be used. Incorrect movement / handling technique can jeopardise patient safety and result in acute or chronic back injury and musculoskeletal disorders to those lifting/moving incorrectly, which can be debilitating. Proper training in patient movement and handling is important to keep both patients and Nurses safe.
Ruairi Campbell, Deputy Nurse Manager and Training and Compliance lead at Leadcare Recruitment, emphasises the Agency’s commitment to elevating Nursing standards through continuous professional development, commenting:
“Healthcare is a dynamic profession, so staying current with the latest protocols and techniques is paramount. We are investing in our Nurses by providing access to top-tier training, which can be challenging to source elsewhere, including CPI Safety Intervention and Haemovigilance Competency.”
“Access to this training supports our Nurses in being compliant, enables them to continue accepting shifts and placements to support our Trusts and private clients, and underscores our dedication to fostering a highly skilled and competent Nursing workforce.”
