Registering with the NMC
For Nurses based in the Republic of Ireland seeking to work in Northern Ireland, registration with the NMC is a prerequisite. The registration process may vary depending on whether you completed your qualifications and training in the UK, or outside of the UK. Find out more about the requirements for registration on the NMC website.
Nurses in the Republic of Ireland who have worked in Northern Ireland or Great Britain should already be registered with the NMC. In this case, you can proceed to register with Leadcare. If your NMC registration has lapsed, please check the re-admission requirements of the NMC.
If you are not currently registered with the NMC and you are a General Nurse/Adult Nurse with a qualification that meets the EU requirements for automatic recognition, you’ll be able to have your qualification recognised by NMC without needing to take a Test of Competence. The total cost for NMC application and registration for those with a qualification that meets the NMC requirements is £293 (an assessment fee of £140 and initial registration fee of £153).
